Hunting Reviews
Here are hunting reviews from past clients that have hunted with us here in Oklahoma at Hook and Horn Outdoors and here is what those hunters had to say.
"Wes has shown me how incredibly gratifying and rewarding the pursuit of these animals can be. I've learned more in 2 days (4 left) than I would have in years. Wes is a wealth of knowledge and more than willing to share it."

"Our guide Wes has attended to all the hunters equally and puts forth a lot of effort in scouting, planning, and putting hunters in stands that they are comfortable in. Thank you, Wes!"

"Been turkey hunting with Wes a few times. From Osceola’s in Florida to Rios in Texas and Oklahoma. If I could think of something he could have done to make the hunt better, I simply don’t know what it could be! If you want an outfitter that will bust his butt to get you an opportunity at a bird. Wes is the first, last and only choice!"

Hunting Stories
What a hunt! And that's exactly what I came to do. Wes let me come in the evening before I was supposed to show up to get settled in. I got in early enough to get an evening hunt in. Nothing showed up but peace of mind being away from work. Day 1: An all-day sit. Perfect weather. A small buck showed up in the morning, but nothing else decided to show itself during the daylight. Day 2: Another all day sit. Something made its way in front of me before daylight. Definitely a deer but unsure of what kind or how big. About 9:30 I got a text from Wes to move further down into the bottom to a different stand.
As I made my way to the next stand location, I caught a glimpse of a whitetail bouncing off into the thicket. As I got up in the tree and settled in, grunts came from the thicket. All I could catch was glimpses of deer bouncing around. Knowing there was a buck in the area, I sat the rest of the day. Finally got to see another small buck make his way past me around 4. The rest of the evening was silent. Day 3: The sound of ducks before daylight cupping in and mallards chuckling. Then, the first doe of the morning steps out. Then another, and another, and another. 7 doe total feeding underneath the tree I was in. Frozen still, trying not to get busted, a spike came out to break up the group, grunting and taking the pressure off of me to not make a noise.
As soon as they were all clear of sight, I took my grunt call and do some tending grunts, hoping to get attention from a bigger buck. He read the script! Coming out from the bottom coming straight at me, steam blowing out of his nose as he is trying to find the "buck" that was not welcomed. After thrashing a tree and making his presence noticed, he made his way to my left. I ranged the tree he was heading to at 35 yards. With a little coaxing of stopping him to get my shot off, I let the arrow fly into my first Oklahoma buck!!! Thank you to the Greg's and Wes for making this happen! It was exactly what I needed. Great food, great people, and great deer to hunt!!!
2023 Oklahoma Hunt
This is the 3rd year hunting with Wes at Hook and Horn Outdoors, and it was definitely one to remember. The start of the deer growing season was jam packed with trail cam pics of bucks coming through the farms. As the hunting season drew nearer there were many hit list bucks to choose from and the excitement of the hunt magnified. I arrived at camp which had an old farmhouse on the property that was set up perfectly for the upcoming hunt. Wes and Greg had put in a ton of hard work getting stands and ground blinds set over the summer. The sets would suit any hunter’s ability and would make it possible to hunt whatever weather Mother Nature threw at us.
The weather changed quickly upon arrival and was bone chilling. We had wind gusting to 20mph for the first couple of days and temperatures down around 12 degrees. These conditions paired along with the full moon phase did not seem to be in our favor for a successful harvest. The hard work that was put in over the summer with scouting, and the right stand sets made it easy for Wes to set me up for the best chance at one of the hit list bucks. The hunting was tough to say the least for the first 3 days with not a shooter buck coming in. I’ve hunted with Wes from farms in Illinois to Texas and into Oklahoma. His knowledge as a guide, hunter, and friend is unmatched in that he just kept reassuring me to stay in the trees and it would happen.
The morning of the 4th day was as cool as any other day minus the harsh winds, and I was in the same tree that I had been in for days. The day broke and there was instant deer activity in the woods. I knew it was going to happen this morning. When the sun finally peaked over the horizon, I was able to glass a hilltop with golden grass 200 yards away. The edge of the grass was lined with juniper trees and out walked one of the target bucks. His dark grey body and chocolate horns illuminated against the golden grass as he walked through it towards my stand.
When he cleared the tree line, I was able to range him at 43 yds, and I drew my Matthews back and sent the arrow. The time was 7:35 am when I called Wes, and he instantly texted me back saying Big Buck Down? The excitement was overwhelming as this was the first Oklahoma buck after 3 years and hundreds of hours in the stands. Wes was just as proud and excited as I was to harvest this amazing buck. The term “Hunting” is all too often forgotten by hunters as they just expect to show up and just “Kill.” If you put in the time, trust your guide, and trust the process it all comes together. Thanks again to my great friend Wes at Hook and Horn Outdoors for an awesome buck and more importantly your friendship. I’ll see you again next year.
